Technology Teacher Turned Technology Learner

This article discusses a case study of a program in New Zealand where 11 and 12 year olds were taking a technology class from College instructors once a week. The purpose of the study was to have education majors getting ready to start teaching, see how technology classes look rather than just hear about what they should look like.
The article states that first year teachers did not feel prepared and confident to teach technology (Smith, 1999). In order to have these pre-service teachers feel more comfortable with the technology curriculum, they were able to see how the curriculum should be taught.
Although some of the lecturers teaching these classes had been out of the classroom for several years, they were very knowledgeable about the theory and practice of technology and felt that their knowledge would be beneficial for the pre-service teachers. I believe that this was a very good idea because everyone has experienced how core subjects are taught because they took the classes when they were in school, but not everyone has taken technology classes, thus not having any experience or idea of how to teach technology.
